Graduate Medical Education
Welcome to Northwest Healthcare!
We have begun our journey to transform Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospitals into a community teaching hospital system by expanding our educational offerings to include graduate medical education (GME).
In the summer of 2023, we will launch an internal medicine residency program. We anticipate adding family medicine and a transitional year program in 2024. Additional residencies and fellowships may be added in the future, as well. Our diverse faculties, who have extensive experience in both allopathic and osteopathic medical education, are looking forward to expanding GME options in Tucson.
Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital have been major teaching sites for students from Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as Arizona College of Osteopathic Medi-cine – Midwestern University for many years. We also serve as major teaching sites for numerous nursing and allied health students from schools throughout Arizona.
Northwest Healthcare includes four community hospitals and two free-standing emergency departments in the Tucson area. We also have several urgent care centers; Northwest Primary & Specialty Care Physicians – a multi-specialty group with approximately 75 providers in 25 clinic locations – and an acute rehabilitation unit, Northwest Transitions, located on the campus of Northwest Medical Center.
Because Tucson is the largest metropolitan area in southern Arizona, we are a referral center for much of the region -- from the Mexican border into Southern New Mexico. Residents will learn to manage a broad range of medical services and care for patients of varying ages and demographic/social backgrounds. Northwest Healthcare offers a range of medical management, treatment, and support services in our hospitals and clinics located in Tucson and the surrounding areas.
We appreciate your interest in GME at Northwest Healthcare. Please look through our website and reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
Family medicine and transitional year residencies begin July 2024.
