A Complex Surgery with Dr. Patrick Chiasson Gets Positive, Life-Changing Results
10/2/2025
Katherine wasn’t a typical weight loss surgery patient. While she did need to lose more than 120 pounds, she was also suffering from gastroparesis, a condition preventing the stomach muscles from working properly to push food into the small intestine. This made Katherine feel so sick, she was relying on anti-nausea medications to get through her days. In addition, she was born with a heart condition that prohibits certain kinds of rigorous exercise.
Katherine’s gastroenterologist, Ibraheem Mizyed, M.D., referred her to Patrick Chiasson, M.D., for further testing and treatment at Northwest Bariatric and Foregut Surgery. After an in-depth evaluation of her symptoms, Katherine and Dr. Chiasson opted for a complex, yet minimally-invasive procedure – gastric bypass surgery with pyloroplasty – to address both her obesity and her gastroparesis.
Both procedures worked together to heal Katherine’s pain and discomfort – soon after her wedding earlier this year! She says the improvements in her health are great for her marriage, too – and she’s attending school to become an ultrasound technician.
“I notice a huge difference, all thanks to Dr. Chiasson and Vivian, his medical assistant,” Katherine says. “They eased my worries and made me comfortable, and were very attentive but never pushy. I always knew that whatever procedure I wanted – or didn’t want – was up to me.
“I’m comfortable and able to move better, and the nausea is just about completely gone. I have a new life, and I’m basically just letting my body do its thing at this point.”
Congratulations, Katherine – and thanks, Dr. Chiasson and team!
