“I Lost a Full Shoe Size” – Cari Woke Up to a New Life After SADI-S Surgery
11/12/2025
“I took a little nap, woke up, and was ready to go,” says Cari as she recalls her SADI-S surgical weight loss procedure with Stephen Burpee, M.D., and the team at Northwest Bariatric and Foregut Surgery. “I had no problems and no hiccups.”
Cari is one of many people opting for minimally-invasive SADI-S rather than sleeve gastrectomy or duodenal switch because SADI-S combines both. It can help patients struggling with severe obesity lose a significant amount of weight while improving or resolving metabolic health problems – including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Cari’s sister and some of her friends had already had SADI-S, so Cari knew to expect the highest standards for recovery, aftercare and practical support from the Bariatrics team. At the time of surgery, she weighed 420 pounds – and has lost 130 so far.
“I’m very happy with, and thankful for, the results,” she says. “I’m now able to bend over and tie my shoes easily – and I’ve lost a full shoe size. I don’t need a scooter in public anymore. I can walk a mile easily and not get worn out, when I couldn’t walk more than a block before. I can shower and meal-prep without having to sit down, and I’m wearing clothes I haven’t worn in years – and all of this without feeling deprived.”
Cari is also enjoying spending more active time with her son and her friends. She no longer has to take medication for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, and she’s less dependent on a BiPAP machine to sleep well.
“I saw one of my friends a couple of months after surgery, and she didn’t recognize me,” Cari says.
Congratulations to Cari on getting her life back, and enjoying every minute of it!
