Women Living With Symptomatic Fibroids Are Finding Relief
TUCSON, AZ (Feb. 9, 2026)– Northwest Healthcare is pleased to announce a milestone – we are using innovative technology to treat women suffering from debilitating symptoms caused by uterine fibroids, including heavy periods and pelvic pain.
Fibroids – benign growths in or around the uterus ranging from the size of a grape to a grapefruit – are very common in women of child-bearing age. In fact, nearly 3 out of 4 women in the United States (70 to 80 percent) will develop uterine fibroids before age 50.
Not all fibroids require treatment, but symptoms often include heavy and/or painful menstrual bleeding that interferes with daily activities. These symptoms may worsen over time if left untreated.
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, more than 200,000 women are treated for uterine fibroids each year, often with a hysterectomy – a significant surgical procedure in which the entire uterus is removed.
However, an alternative treatment featuring radiofrequency ablation technology delivered via a miniaturized ultrasound handpiece inside the uterus, is available. This incisionless outpatient technology is designed to preserve the uterus and minimize recovery time, all without the need for general anesthesia. The patient usually returns to her normal activities within two days, and sometimes within only one.
Jessica Serrano-Rodriguez, M.D., a gynecologist at Northwest Women’s Health at Houghton, is now offering this treatment.
“My patients have been waiting and suffering, sometimes for years, to seek treatment for their fibroids.” says Dr. Serrano. “Women often want to avoid surgical procedures that remove any part of their uterus or require lengthy recoveries.”
Dr. Serrano, a specialist in advanced treatments for fibroids, is accepting new patients who may qualify for this treatment. For more information or to request an appointment, visit https://www.nwalliedphysicians.com/our-locations/northwest-womens-health-at-houghton-3064.
