Northwest Healthcare encourages men in Pima County to in get their annual wellness exam added to the 2026 calendar
TUCSON, AZ (June 5, 2026) – In general, men tend to avoid going to the doctor – even if they think something may be wrong. In fact, almost half of men skip their yearly physical – which covers important aspects of their health, including urological and sexual health care.
Many men face common, treatable issues in this area – including urinary challenges caused by an enlarged prostate kidney stones; urinary tract infections; urinary incontinence; and cancers involving the prostate, testicles, bladder and kidneys.
“Our bodies need routine and preventive maintenance, just like cars do,” says urologist Jules Manger, M.D., one of 10 urology providers who sees patients at Northwest Urology. “As men – fathers, husbands, and friends – we can support those we love, as well as ourselves, by dedicating a reasonable amount of time and effort to care for our health. While intimate issues can cause embarrassment, it’s still important to go to the doctor for screening and diagnosis. The earlier a man seeks treatment, the better his overall health and quality of life tend to be.”
In addition to urological concerns, common health issues in men include:
Heart Disease. This is the leading cause of death for men in the United States – but, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than half of men don’t experience any warning symptoms.
Low Testosterone. Normally, testosterone levels decrease over time – but this decrease is becoming more prevalent among younger men. Four out of 10 men have low testosterone by the age of 45, according to the Urology Care Foundation.
Depression. The suicide rate among men is four times higher than among women, according to the CDC. In fact, the American Psychological Association reports, 30 percent of men have suffered from depression at some point during their lives.
Primary care physicians check for conditions which may be present long before a man notices signs and symptoms of a health problem. Depending on age and family medical history, an annual physical may include:
- Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation
- Blood pressure, heart and respiration rates
- Questions about alcohol and tobacco use
- Questions about diet and exercise habits
- Cholesterol and other blood tests
- Vaccinations
- Mental health screening
- Testicular, hernia and/or prostate exams
