Northwest Medical Center Now Designated as a Level IV Trauma Center

TUCSON, AZ (June 4, 2024) – Northwest Medical Center (NMC) was designated as a Level IV trauma center by the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma System.
The level of a trauma center (I, II, III, IV, or V) denotes the kinds of trauma resources it offers, as well as the number of trauma patients admitted yearly. A Level IV designation means that a trauma center has demonstrated its ability to provide advanced trauma life support to patients before transfer to a higher level trauma center if needed.
"A trauma center is an emergency room that is equipped to care for patients with acute injuries," said NMC's trauma medical director Shane Svoboda, M.D., FACS. “We are also prepared to care for critical patients who may have sustained multiple injuries in falls, car accidents or violence - and who often require care from different specialists throughout the hospital. At its core, a trauma center is dedicated to providing the most comprehensive level of care to those who need it."
NMC underwent a rigorous process in order to earn Level IV trauma center designation. This included acquiring specific supplies and equipment; creating processes for ongoing improvements; and offering continuing education related to trauma care.
“This designation shows our hospital’s commitment to providing the kind of medical care someone may need after experiencing a traumatic injury,” said Brian Sinotte, FACHE, market CEO of Northwest Healthcare. "Our team has gone to the next level, above and beyond excellent emergency care, and we are so proud to be able to offer these capabilities to the communities we serve."
