Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita Now Offering Robotic-assisted Joint Replacement

Sahuarita, Ariz. – Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita is pleased to announce the recent acquisition of robotic-assisted joint replacement technology. Now, we can even better provide the patients and communities we serve with safe, high-quality hip and knee replacement surgery.
This minimally-invasive surgical method uses a virtual 3D model of the patient’s knee or hip so the surgeon can create the patient’s plan before even stepping into the operating room. During surgery, the surgeon uses the robotic arm for bone preparation and placement of the implant. The surgical plan can be adjusted mid-procedure if needed.
“The robotic assisted technology allows me to make a precise surgical plan tailored to each patient’s anatomy and diagnosis,” said Mark Kowalski, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon at Northwest Bone & Joint at Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita. "Robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery is, for many patients, more accurate than the traditional option and is a great choice for those who want a minimally-invasive procedure so they can get back to doing the things they love."
The demand for joint replacements is expected to rise in the next decade, so access to this technology is increasingly important. According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, by the year 2030, total knee replacements are estimated to increase 673 percent and total hip replacements by 174 percent.
“We’re excited to bring this technology to Sahuarita, which underscores our continued commitment to providing higher levels of care to the community,” said Brett Lee, the hospital’s chief administrative officer.
