Keeping Moms and Babies Safe During the Pandemic
3/11/2021
Tucson, Ariz. (March 2021) – In spite of the global pandemic, the labor and delivery team at Northwest Women’s Center continue to celebrate helping bring new life into the world, and encourage new moms and expectant moms to seek pre- and post-natal care.
“Prenatal care is very important during pregnancy, and getting early and regular prenatal care can help you have a healthy pregnancy and a full-term baby. Fear of COVID-19 should not deter an expectant mother from seeking care,” said Dr. Carol Dehasse, an obstetrician-gynecologist with Northwest Specialty Care.
When it is time for delivery, Dehasse says she and staff at Northwest Women’s Center are working together to provide a clean, safe environment.
“Due to COVID-19, you can expect extra precautions at your pre-natal visit, as well as at our Women’s Center, when you deliver. We’re committed to providing safe care for you and your new baby,” said Dehasse.
That includes temperature scans, additional screening questions and hand sanitizer being available for regular use.
In addition, Northwest Women’s Center is located in a separate building from the main hospital, and the staff is dedicated to providing care for moms and babies. Housekeeping teams are cleaning frequently used areas, and staff continue to support social distancing to maintain a safe environment during the pandemic. All staff, patients and visitors are screened and masked, and Northwest Healthcare has implemented policies to support social distancing.
Once past triage, and they’ve been admitted to the women’s center for labor and delivery, mothers can have one support person the remainder of their stay, who can come and go when needed. Staff asks, however, that unnecessary trips be limited.
