Most sleep disorders can be treated, and when treated your quality of life can improve. If left untreated, sleep disorders may lead to other health problems including:
To be accurately diagnosed with a sleep disorder, your physician may recommend a sleep study. Sleep studies are performed on an outpatient basis and record your sleep patterns, breathing, oxygen level, muscle tone, heart rate and rhythms, and the brain's electrical activity. To obtain this information, the sleep technologist tapes sensors to various parts of your body. If you are sleeping poorly or snoring during the study, therapy may be started during the study itself. Sleep studies require an overnight stay in the Sleep Center.
To schedule a sleep study, talk to your physician and ask to be referred to The Sleep Centers of Oro Valley Hospital.
